When Do I Need To Prepare, File My District of Columbia, DC Tax Amendment?
You need to file your D.C. state amended tax return within 3 years of the original tax return filing deadline, or 2 years from the time when taxes owed was paid (whichever is later).
If the IRS adjusts your federal tax return, you must file your D.C. tax amendment within 90 days of receiving the IRS notice of the federal return change.
How Do I Fix an Accepted DC Tax Return or File a Tax Amendment in the District of Columbia?
If there are changes in your previously filed D.C. income tax return, then you must file a District of Columbia tax amendment form.
To amend District of Columbia tax returns for previous tax years, you need to include a copy of your original state return along with your amended return using the form for the year being amended. Attach an explanation of the changes with your amended return.
However, if you need to provide extra information about a previously filed tax return as requested by the Office of Tax and Revenue, DO NOT file a tax amendment with the District of Columbia.

What Are the Penalties, Interest, and Fees Related District of Columbia Tax Amendments?
There are several penalties that the District of Columbia charges for various tax-related violations.
A failure to pay penalty amounts to 5% per month and will not exceed 25% of the total tax due.
If the tax due is not paid within 90 days and the total amount due, including penalties and fees, amounts to over $200, then a collection fee will be administered by the District of Columbia Office of Tax and Revenue. The fee amounts to 10% of the total tax, penalties, and interest.
The interest rate for underpayment of taxes is 10% annually, and is compounded on a daily basis.
