North Dakota State Income Tax Return forms for Tax Year 2018 (Jan. 1 - Dec. 31, 2018) can be e-Filed in conjunction with an IRS Income Tax Return until October 15, 2019. In January 2020, you can e-File Tax Year 2019.

eFile.com makes it easy for you to e-file your IRS and North Dakota State Tax Return (e.g resident, nonresident, or part-year resident returns). However, the IRS and the respective State Tax Agencies require you to e-file a Federal Income Tax Return at the same time you e-file a State Tax Return. This is not an eFile.com policy but an IRS and State Agency policy. Thus, technically you cannot e-File anywhere - not just eFile.com - a North Dakota Tax Return without also e-filing the associated IRS Tax Return. But there is good news, please read on.

Detailed instructions on how you can only prepare and mail in - not eFile - a North Dakota 2018 Tax Return - here via eFile.com. However, you must download/print and sign the forms and mail them to the Tax Agency.

Automatic File North Dakota Tax Extension

If you are certain that you cannot file your North Dakota return by the deadline, you do not need to file for an extension. You will automatically receive a 6-month extension of time to file your return (not to pay). The extended tax return due date is October 15, 2019. Please be aware that North Dakota will not accept the federal extension form as an extension for your North Dakota tax return. However, if you expect to owe income taxes, you should submit your payment with payment voucher Form 101 (if federal extension not submitted). If you efiled your return and are making a payment by check or money order, you must complete a Form 101 on efile.com. If you are making a payment by credit card, a Form 101 is not needed. If you are making an automatic extension payment, you also must use Form 101 unless it is made electronically. Use efile.com and prepare a North Dakota tax return to find out what your North Dakota state income tax payment will be.
