Problem: The IRS - not eFile.com - rejected your Federal Tax Return because the Spouse's SSN entered is locked by the Social Security Administration because the individual has deceased.
Solution: Sign info your eFile.com account, click Name & Address, and check the spouse's SSN. If the SSN is incorrect, make this edit so you can re-efile.
Once you have corrected this, continue with your re-eFile process. You can re-eFile your return at no additional charge as many times as it takes to get it accepted.
In some cases, the IRS rejects incorrectly; contact the IRS or call 1-800-829-1040. You may also consider contacting the Social Security Administration.
If the SSN cannot be unlocked by the SSA, go to "My Account" in eFile.com and download, sign, print, and paper file your return via mail. Here are the mailing addresses.
Then, follow up with the IRS and SSA.
