If you e-filed an IRS tax amendment via eFile.com you do not need to mail it in.

1. Sign In or Sign Up
After you have prepared and e-Filed your return(s) via eFile.com: Sign to your eFile.com account then click on the right side page on Amend my return - see below.
Important: If you did not use eFile.com to e-File an IRS accepted original current tax year return(s) you can not prepare and e-file a current tax year tax amendment via eFile.com. You can prepare form 1040-X on paper for free and mail it in.
Click on the link below What if I need to make changes now that my return is accepted? You can not e-file a state tax amendment, instead follow these state tax amendment instructions.

Once you have click on the link What if I need to make changes now that my return is accdepted? you will see the button listed below. Click on that and the actual tax amendment page will start.

2. IRS Amendment Page
This is the IRS tax amendment page on eFile.com. Follow the instructions as listed below. Once completed the tax app will create the IRS amendment form 1040-X. The completed form 1040-X can be viewed as a PDF file in your My Account on eFile.com before and after you have e-filed the form.

Important: If you did not use eFile.com to e-File an IRS accepted original 2023 return(s) you can not prepare and e-file a 2023 tax amendment via eFile.com.

Once you have e-filed your tax amendment follow these steps to check you IRS tax amendment status
4. IRS Tax Payment as a result of the Tax Amendment
If you owe taxes as the result of the tax amendment we recommend you first e-file the tax amendment and not pay during the e-filng process. Once the Tax Amendment has been accepted pay direclty at the IRS site. at no charge. You do NOT need to mail in the form 1040-X if you e-filed the form. If you created the 1040-X tax amendment on paper include a check with the tax amendment and mail it to the IRS mailing address for your tax amendment.
