Problem: The IRS—not eFile.com—rejected your Tax Return because the Primary Date of Death of a spouse or taxpayer has a value in the IRS database that must match the current Tax Year.
Solution: Sign into your eFile.com account, click Name and Address information, and enter the correct primary date of death. The date must be in the current Tax Year, not a prior Tax Year. If it is correct, have the surviving spouse contact the Social Security Administration at 1-800-772-1213 to correct the Social Security Administration records. This process can take up to two weeks for the information to be updated in the IRS database.
Once the date of death has been corrected, continue with your re-eFile process. You can re-eFile your return at no additional charge as many times as it might take.
Alternatively, go to "My Account" in eFile.com and download, sign, print and paper file your return via mail or call the IRS: 1-800-829-1040.
