IRS Tax Return Rejection Code F8962-002-03

Problem: The IRS—not eFile.com—has rejected your return because the Adjusted Gross Income (AGI) on your Form 1040 or Form 1040-SR is different than the AGI on your Form 8962 Premium Tax Credit. This difference is because of the unemployment compensation exclusion recently allowed by the American Rescue Plan Act. We are working with the IRS to resolve this issue. Thank you for your patience.

Solution: eFile.com has updated our system to include the recent change to the first $10,200 of unemployment compensation received during 2020. Taxpayers who report this income after March 16, 2021 will see this change on their return. This has unexpectedly affected other aspects of the return; the AGI has to consistently match on all forms and the Form 8962 was affected by this. We will be updating our system to accommodate for this as soon as possible.

Once this is done, you can re-efile your 2020 return for free. Sign in here and click File on the left side of the screen and go through the e-filing and checkout process.
