Problem: The State of California—not eFile.com—has rejected your return, as the Spouse's/RDPs Social Security Number can not be the same as a previously accepted return, unless you are preparing a tax amendment.
Solution: Please sign in to your eFile.com account now and click on State Taxes in the upper left and review the IRS message on the right.
1. Sign in: https://mytaxes.efile.com/1040/SignIn/
2. Click on State Taxes on the left and click on I'd like to see the forms I've filled out on the right. Select California and review the Social Security Number (SSN). If you see that the SSN is incorrect, make the correction there or click on Name & Address at the top and make the SSN correction on that page. If the SSN is correct, then you can not file this return, because a return with this SSN has already been accepted by the State of California. Or, you can mail in the return and contact the state later.
