Form 6251 - Alternative Minimum Tax

The purpose of Form 6251 is to calculate the taxpayer's alternative minimum taxable income (AMTI) and to determine if they owe any additional tax under the alternative minimum tax system. The AMT is meant to prevent individuals with high incomes from using various tax deductions and credits to reduce their regular income tax liability to extremely low levels or even to zero.
