Pennsylvania Tax Extensions
Pennsylvania honors federal tax extensions; if you owe no state tax and you filed a federal extension, you get an automatic 6-month state extension. If you owe state tax and/or if you did not file a federal extension, you can get a state extension by efiling Form REV-276 on efile.com, or by filling out Form REV-276 and mailing it (with payment, if applicable) to the address on the form.
Remember that if you owe taxes, you must still pay the amount due by April 18 or you will begin to accrue penalties and interest.

PA Tax Amendments
If you have already filed or efiled your state return and you need to make corrections, you can file an amended return.
To prepare a Pennsylvania amended tax return, simply fill out a new Form PA-40. Be sure to fill in the oval next to "Amended Return" on the front of the form. Mail the completed form to the address on the form.

If you efile a Pennsylvania tax return, your refund will generally be processed within 4 weeks. Processing may take 8-10 weeks if you filed a paper state return.

Pennsylvania Tax Facts
PA Income Tax:
Pennsylvania taxes all resident and nonresident personal income at a flat rate of 3.07%. Some localities levy additional income taxes.
PA Sales Tax:
Pennsylvania has a state sales, use, and hotel occupancy tax rate of 6% on most goods and services. Allegheny County levies an additional local sales tax of 1%, and Philadelphia County levies a 2% local sales tax (but not on hotel occupancy).
PA Personal Property Tax:
There is no Pennsylvania state tax on personal property, but counties, municipalities, and school districts levy local taxes on real estate and tangible property.
Odd Tax Fact:
In Pennsylvania, liquor is taxed at the rate of 18%.
