Form IT-9, Tax Extension
|
To obtain an automatic 60-day extension of time to file your Indiana state tax return, you must complete and file Form IT-9 on or before the original deadline of the IN state return. This is not an extension of time to pay your state taxes owed. If you file an IN state tax extension, you should pay at least 90% of taxes due by the deadline in order to avoid any penalties. Complete and file form ES-40 if you owe IN state tax.
If you file federal tax extension Form 4868 and you paid at least 90% of taxes owed to the state, you automatically gain an extension of time to file your IN state tax return and you do not need to file Form IT-9.
Your new IN state tax return deadline will be November 15. This due date applies whether you filed Form IT-9 or Form 4868.
