IRS Tax Return Rejection Code F1040-164-01

Problem: If the IRS rejected one or more of these credits: EITC, CTC, ACTC or AOTC, you may have received a letter stating that the credit was disallowed. That means you'll need to add Information To Claim Refundable Credits After Dis-allowance to your return.

In order to take credit in a given or future tax year, you must re-certify yourself by filing Form 8862 with your tax return. Sometimes the IRS will automatically re-certify you and send you a CP74 or other letter to let you know that you do not have to file Form 8862 with your tax return to receive the credit.

Solution: Sign into your eFile.com account at https://mytaxes.efile.com/1040/SignIn/, click on My Return and follow the instructions on the right side of your screen: Click on the green button "Add Information To Claim Refundable Credits After Disallowance" on that page. Complete the form and re-efile your federal and state returns at no extra charge.

If you were advised that you must file a Form 8862 to receive a credit in a future year and did not receive CP74 or another notice telling you that you have been re-certified, file Form 8862 with your tax return or the credit will be denied.
