Married filing jointly
If you are married as of Dec. 31 of the tax year, you may efile a joint income tax return.
Also, you can use this filing status if your spouse died during the tax year and you did not remarry.

Qualified Widow(er)
If your spouse died during 2005 or 2006, you have a qualifying child, and meet certain other conditions, you may be eligible for this filing status.


If you are unmarried, divorced or legally separated as of Dec. 31 of the tax year, your filing status will most likely be SINGLE.

Head of household
If you are unmarried and you have paid most (more than 50 %) of the home maintenance cost for you and a qualifying individual you may choose HEAD OF HOUSEHOLD.

Married filing separately
Even though you are married as of Dec. 31 you have the option to efile separate income tax returns.
