Online eFile State Tax Return Error Code

If your online efile State tax return was rejected, don't worry, since a rejection of an efile completed online tax return usually requires only a small correction.

Please sign back into your tax return https://www.efile.com/my-tax-return/ and follow the instructions on what to do to correct your online tax return. Once you have completed the correction, please efile your state tax return again (no extra charges apply).

IL1040-8000-2 IL Your Illinois return has rejected because you have entered and invalid Illinois PIN, prior year AGI, prior year zip code or invalid driver's license information. To correct, click File to resend your return. On the ""Sign your Illinois Return"" screen, ensure the entries perfectly match your prior year return, your driver's license or the PIN letter you received from the IL Department of Revenue. If you require assistance getting this information correct please call the IL-PIN inquiry system at (800)732-8866 or (217)782-3336. Your Illinois return has rejected because you have entered invalid driver's license information. To correct, click File to resend your return. On the ""Sign your Illinois Return"" screen, ensure the entries perfectly match your prior year return, your driver's license. 1. Don't worry or panic- Sign in to your efile.com account.

2. Click "File" on the left side of your account screen and follow the on-screen prompts until you reach the "Sign your Illinois Return" screen.

3. Check that your Illinois PIN, prior-year Adjusted Gross Income (AGI), prior-year Zip code, or driver's license information was entered correctly. 

4. If all information is correct on your state return, there's no need to efile again since the state tax agency may have an error in their records. 

5. Please PRINT and MAIL your state tax return before the tax return deadline. Click "My Account" and you will find a PDF copy of your tax return; here are the mailing addresses by state (see under "Where to Track Your State Tax Refund" - the state agency link is in the pop up).

6. After you have MAILED your tax return to the state tax agency please contact the state tax agency to inform them of this issue and ask them how to proceed.

760-007 VA A Virginia tax return with your Social Security Number (SSN) was already accepted by the Virginia Department of Revenue.

1. Do not worry or panic- Sign in to your efile.com account.

2. Click the "Name and Address" link on the left side of your account screen and review the SSN you entered on the "Personal Information" screen.

3. If the SSN is correct, it must be an error in the state tax agency records or someone fraudulently filed a return with your information. You do not need to re-efile your return, so print, sign and mail your return by the tax return deadline. Click "My Account" on the top of your account screen and you will find a PDF copy of your tax return. 4. After you have MAILED your tax return to the state tax agency, please call the state tax agency to inform them about the issue and ask them how to proceed.

NO-FED-ACCEPTANCE DE The DE return has been rejected due to a federal reject, or lack of a federal acceptance already on file. To correct this error please correct the federal return, then re-calculate and re-transmit both the federal and state returns.

2. Click "File" on the left side of your account screen and follow the on-screen prompts to re-efile your federal and/or state return. 

3. If the state tax agency keeps rejecting your return electronically, please PRINT and MAIL your state tax return before the tax return deadline. 4. After you have MAILED your tax return to the state tax agency, please contact the agency to inform them of the issue and ask them how to proceed.

F540/NR/NRS/2EZ-320 CA Your state return has rejected, because a return has already been filed for you with the state of California.

1. Don't worry or panic- Sign in to your efile.com account.

2. Click "Name and Address" on the left side of your account screen. 

3. Check your Social Security Number (SSN) on this screen. 

4. If your SSN is correct on your tax return, there's no need to efile again since the state tax agency has already accepted a tax return with the SSN on record.

IIT2016-0009 AR Taxpayers are required to have a filing history with the state of Arkansas to file electronically. Your first tax return with the state must be paper filed.

1. Do not worry or panic- Sign in to your efile.com account.

2. If this is not your first Arkansas tax return, click the "Name and Address" link on the left side of your account screen and verify the information you entered on the "Personal Information" screen. If it's entered correctly, you do not need to re-efile the return since this is your first tax return.

3. You will need to print and mail your return by the tax return deadline. Under "My Account" you will find a PDF copy of your tax return; here are the mailing addresses by state (see under "Where to Track Your State Tax Refund" - the state agency link is in the pop up).

4. After you have MAILED your tax return to the Arkansas state tax agency, please call the agency to inform them about the issue and ask them how to proceed.

OHIND-093 OH An Ohio income tax return has already been received and processed for the primary SSN and tax year. If you are attempting to correct the original return, you must submit this as an amended return. If you did not already file an Ohio income tax return, please contact Taxpayer Services at 1-800-282-1780.

2. Click the "Name and Address" link on the left side of your account screen and review the SSN you entered on the "Personal Information" screen.

3. If the SSN is correct, it must be an error in the state tax agency records or someone fraudulently filed a return with your information. OHIND-038 OH The SSN (social security number) for you or your spouse is the same as a dependent claimed on another return. To Correct, click on the Name and Address screen and verify you have correctly enter the social security numbers for you and/or your spouse. IF the numbers are correct: 1. If someone else can claim you or your spouse as a dependent, check the box next to "Can anyone claim you as a dependent?" 2. If no one can claim either of you, someone may have filed using your information. You will have to file your return by mail. We recommend that you also fill out and include the Identity Theft Affidavit. IF the number(s) are incorrect: 1. Make the necessary correction, and click save at the bottom of the screen to save your changes. 2. Click on FILE to resubmit your return.

1. Do not worry or panic- Sign in to your efile.com account. 

2. Click the "Name and Address" link on the left side of your account screen.

3. Check your Social Security Numbers on the "Personal Information" screen.

4. If they're entered correctly on your efile.com tax return and you or your spouse a dependent, make sure you check the box that states that you can be claimed as a dependent on another taxpayer's return. Click "Save" at the bottom of the screen, click File on the left side, and follow the on-screen prompts to re-efile your return.

5. If you or your spouse is not a dependent and your information was entered correctly, no need to efile again. You will need to paper file your return because the state tax agency will reject your return as it is now until the return claiming you is amended.

7. After you have MAILED your tax return to the state tax agency please call your state tax agency to inform them about the issue.

F540/NR/NRS/2EZ-330 CA A California return has already been filed using the spouse's Social Security Number.

1. Don't worry or panic- Sign in to your efile.com account.

2. Click "Name and Address" on the left side of your account screen. 

3. Check your spouse's Social Security Number (SSN) on the "Personal Information" screen. If it's incorrect, correct the SSN and click "Save" at the bottom of the screen.  Click "File" on the left side of your account screen and follow the on-screen prompts to re-efile your return.

4. If your spouse's SSN is correct on your tax return, review your filing status selection (it cannot be Single, Married Filing Jointly, or Qualifying Widower). Otherwise, there's no need to efile again since the state tax agency has already accepted a tax return with the SSN on record.

5. Please PRINT and MAIL your tax return before the tax return deadline. Click "My Account" and you will find a PDF copy of your tax return. Here are the mailing addresses by state (see under "Where to Track Your State Tax Refund" - the state agency link is in the pop up).

6. After you have MAILED your tax return to the state tax agency please contact the state tax agency to inform them of the issue.

R000-00000-050 MD The MD return was rejected because a return was previously accepted for the SSN of the taxpayer or spouse.Click Name & Address on the left and verify the SSN used. If the SSN is incorrect, correct the number and resubmit your return. If the SSN is correct and you have not filed a return, you will have to mail your MD return, you cannot e-file it.

1. Don't worry or panic- Sign in to your efile.com account. 

2. Click on the  "Name and Address" on the left side of your account screen. 

3. Check all Social Security Numbers (SSNs) on this screen.

4. If all SSNs are correct on your efile.com tax return, no need to efile again.

PA40-027 PA Your social security number has been used on a Pennsylvania return already filed for this tax year. Verify you have entered the correct SSN on the name and address screen. Correct as needed and save your changes. Then you can resend your return. If your SSN is entered correctly and you have NOT filed a PA return, you will need to contact the state of PA. Taxpayer Service and Information Center. Call (717) 787-8201 for Pennsylvania personal income tax help during normal business hours, 7:30 a.m. to 5 p.m., Eastern Standard Time.

ILHEADER-8500-5 IL You must file a paper Form IL-1040 with all required supporting documents including your last paycheck stub from each employer if you are claiming Illinois Income Tax withheld on Line 25, and your federal tax return transcript if you are claiming an Earned Income Credit on Line 28. If you do not have a copy of your tax return transcript, please call the IRS at 1 800 908-9946 or go to their website at www.irs.gov to request one. Each year, certain taxpayers are selected for additional manual review. This selection prevents you from filing an electronic return, even though you may have filed electronically in previous years.
