If your online efile tax return was rejected, don't worry, since a rejection of an efile completed online tax return usually requires only a small correction.

Please sign back into your tax return http://www.efile.com/my-tax-return/ and follow the instructions on what to do to correct your online tax return. Once you have completed the correction, please efile your tax return again (no extra charges apply).

2) Check your SSN on the "Name and Address" screen to make sure it matches your SSN card. It cannot be all zeros or all nines, or the same as your spouse’s SSN if married filing jointly, or any other dependent’s SSN. Click "Save" at the bottom, then "Results" to recalculate your return. When all errors are corrected, click on File Your Return to re-transmit your return to the IRS. (0004)
5 FEDERAL You have entered a maximum number of statements for this return. If you cannot consolidate statements, then the return must be mailed to the IRS. (0005)
0006 FEDERAL Either your last name or that of your spouse was entered incorrectly. 1) Sign into your efile.com account.
2) Check your last name on the "Name and Address" screen to make sure it matches your SSN card.
7 FEDERAL You have entered an invalid street address on your return. 1) Click on "Name and Address" and re-enter your street address. It should have no more than one consecutive space within the address and should contain no special characters other than a space, hyphen or slash.
2) Click Save at the bottom of the form to save your changes.
3) Click on Results to recalculate your return. When all errors are corrected, click on File Your Return to re-transmit your return to the IRS.

16 FEDERAL You have entered an invalid ZIP code for the taxpayer residency state. 1) Click "Name and Address" on the left side of your efile.com account.
2) Check your zipcode for numbering errors and click Save at the bottom.
3) Click Results and efile your return again at no extra charge.
17 FEDERAL On Form 4137, The Tip Income Name AND Tip Income SSN
must both be present.
18 FEDERAL On Form 5329, the Name of Person Subject to Penalty Tax
AND SSN of Person Subject to Penalty Tax must be present.
19 FEDERAL You have entered an invalid Routing Transit Number (RTN) on your direct deposit information. 1) Click "File" on the left side of your efile.com account screen and follow the on-screen prompts until you reach the Your direct deposit information screen.
2) Select Direct Deposit as your refund choice and verify that the RTN you entered matches the RTN on your bank account (the first 2 positions must be 01-12 or 21-32). If the RTN matches your bank account, check with your financial institution to verify whether the banking institution can process an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). If not, you cannot use this banking institution for your direct deposit. Enter the RTN for another banking institution you use or select “Mail Check” as your refund choice. If the RTN you entered does not match your bank account, correct the RTN and click Save at the bottom of the screen to save your changes.
3) Complete the “File Your Return” process to re-transmit your return to the IRS.
20 FEDERAL You have entered an invalid taxpayer name on your return. The taxpayer name must be letters only, with no more than one consecutive space within the name and no special characters other than &, - and <. 1) Sign into your account and click "Name and Address" on the left side of your efile.com account screen.
2) Correct the Taxpayer Name and click Save at the bottom of the form to save your changes.
3) Click "File" on the left to recalculate your return. When all errors are corrected, follow the on-screen prompts to re-transmit your return to the IRS.
21 FEDERAL You have entered data in the “In Care Of” field that is invalid with the IRS. 1) Sign into your account and click "Name and Address" on the left side of your account screen.
2) Correct the “In Care Of” field to be alphanumeric with no more than one consecutive space and with no special characters except ampersand (&), hyphen (-), slash (\) and percent (%). Click Save at the bottom of the form to save your changes.
3) Click "File" on the left to recalculate your return. When all errors are corrected, follow the on-screen prompts to re-transmit your return to the IRS.
22 FEDERAL The incorrect state abbreviation was entered. 1) Click Name and Address on the left side of your efile.com account.
2) Make sure you enter the correct state abbreviation and click Save at the bottom. It must be alpha and
consistent with the standard state abbreviations issued by the Postal
Service (Exception: This check is not performed when the Address Indicator is
equal to "3", indicating a foreign address)
3) Click File on the left and follow the on-screen prompts to re-efile your return at no extra charge.
23 FEDERAL You entered an invalid resident city on your return. The city must be spelled out, be at least three letters long and have no more than one consecutive space within the name. 1) Sign into your efile.com account and click "Name and Address" on the left side of your account screen.
2) Correct the entry in the City field and click Save at the bottom of the form to save your changes.
3) Click "File" on the left to recalculate your return. When all errors are corrected, follow the on-screen prompts to re-transmit your return to the IRS.
24 FEDERAL You have entered a military residence city but did not enter a corresponding military state, or vice-versa. 1) Sign into your efile.com account and click "Name and Address" on the left side of your account screen.
2) Under the "Your Address" heading, review your information. If your residence city entry of “APO” or “FPO” is correct, then drop down the arrow on the state box and choose Armed Forces Americas (AA), Armed Forces Europe (AE) or Armed Forces Pacific (AP) at the bottom of the list. If your state is correct, AA, AE or AP, then enter “APO” or “FPO” in the city box. Be sure your ZIP code is as follows: • State Armed Forces Americas (AA) – ZIP 340 • State Armed Forces Europe (AE) – ZIP codes 090–098 • State Armed Forces Pacific (AP) – ZIP codes 962–966 Click Save at the bottom of the form to save your changes.
3) Click "File" on the left to recalculate your return. When all errors are corrected, follow the on-screen prompts to re-transmit your return to the IRS.
25 FEDERAL Your Online tax return was rejected by the IRS because the PIN signature date or taxpayers date of birth is not present. 1) Sign into your efile.com account and click "Name and Address" on the left side of your account screen.
2) Verify the Taxpayers Date of Birth, then enter or correct it if necessary.
3) Click "File" on the left side of the screen and follow the on-screen prompts until your reach the "To E-file You Must Identify Yourself to the IRS" screen.
4) You have 2 options to verify your identity with the IRS: your Prior Year AGI amount or an IRS e-file PIN from the IRS website. If you did not file or efile a tax return last year, select the "No" option and the software will automatically enter "0" as your prior-year AGI.
5) You will go to a screen to self-select a five-digit PIN to use as your electronic signature (this is different from the PIN or AGI you previously entered). This PIN can be any five numbers except "00000" (or any number that has 5 of the same digit) or "12345".
6) When you get to the screen that allows you to view the PDF version of your tax return, click E-File Return.
26 FEDERAL Authentication Record - For an On-Line return (ONLY when the Self-Select
PIN was not used): if Filing Status equals "2", then the following must
be present on the Authentication Record:

(For ETD Documents, the EFIN must equal the EFIN
contained in the DCN of the ETD Document.)
28 FEDERAL the EFIN was entered incorrectly in ERO information. EFIN of
Originator must contain a valid two-digit EFIN prefix code.
29 FEDERAL the EFIN was NOT AUTHORIZED at the SERVICE CENTER the RETURN was
sent to. EFIN of Originator must be for a valid
electronic filer COMMON CAUSES for the return going to a different
service center are: 1) Form 2555 must go to Philadelphia and 2) the
piggyback state has caused return to go to another service center.
You may call the service center the return went to and request that
your EFIN be turned on at that center.
You can also request ALL service centers when filing Form 8633 with
the IRS. To print a blank Form 8633 in Drake Software, go to F5
Utilities, F2 Blank Forms, F2 Print Blank Forms, 1040 Series Forms,
8633.
If you get this error on a MESSAGES page, then check
your EFIN in firm Setup (it may be entered incorrectly).
