If your online efile tax return was rejected, don't worry, since a rejection of an efile completed online tax return usually requires only a small correction.

Please sign back into your tax return http://www.efile.com/my-tax-return/ and follow the instructions on what to do to correct your online tax return. Once you have completed the correction, please efile your tax return again (no extra charges apply).

4 FEDERAL You have entered an invalid Social Security Number (SSN) on your return. To correct, click on Taxpayer Information under the Personal Information category and correct your SSN. It cannot be all zeros or all nines, or the same as your spouse’s SSN if married filing jointly, or any other dependent’s SSN. Click on Results to recalculate your return. When all errors are corrected, click on File Your Return to re-transmit your return to the IRS. (0004)
5 FEDERAL You have entered a maximum number of statements for this return. If you cannot consolidate statements, then the return must be mailed to the IRS. (0005)
0006 FEDERAL Either your last name or that of your spouse was entered incorrectly. 1) Sign into your efile.com account.
2) Check your last name on the "Personal Information" screen to make sure it matches your SSN card.
7 FEDERAL You have entered an invalid street address on your return. To correct, click on Taxpayer Information under the Personal Information category and re-enter your street address. It should have no more than one consecutive space within the address and should contain no special characters other than a space, hyphen or slash. Click Save at the bottom of the form to save your changes. Click on Results to recalculate your return. When all errors are corrected, click on File Your Return to re-transmit your return to the IRS. (0007)

10 FEDERAL The Federal Error Code (0010) or "10" requires assitance from the efile.com support team. Find instructions on the right. For assistance please contact http://www.efile.com/support/ and report that your tax return was rejected with Error Reject Code '10'.
11 FEDERAL This is to test entry of dependents (0011)
12 FEDERAL the taxpayer has Overpaid on the return.
1) If Est. Penalty is greater than the amount Overpaid

14 FEDERAL When there is an entry in a field defined as "NO ENTRY," the return
cannot be filed electronically and must be mailed.
16 FEDERAL You have entered an invalid ZIP code for the taxpayer residency state. Please sign back in below. On the tab Taxpayer Information under the Personal Information category correct the ZIP code, click Save at the bottom. Click Results and efile your return again; no extra charges.
17 FEDERAL On Form 4137, The Tip Income Name AND Tip Income SSN
must both be present.
18 FEDERAL On Form 5329, the Name of Person Subject to Penalty Tax
AND SSN of Person Subject to Penalty Tax must be present.
19 FEDERAL You have entered an invalid Routing Transit Number (RTN) on your direct deposit information. To correct, click on File Your Return, select Direct Deposit as your refund choice and verify that the RTN you entered matches the RTN on your bank account (the first 2 positions must be 01-12 or 21-32). If the RTN matches your bank account, check with your financial institution to verify whether the banking institution can process an Electronic Funds Transfer (EFT). If not, you cannot use this banking institution for your direct deposit. Enter the RTN for another banking institution you use or select “Mail Check” as your refund choice. If the RTN you entered does not match your bank account, correct the RTN and click Save at the bottom of the screen to save your changes. Complete the “File Your Return” process to re-transmit your return to the IRS.
20 FEDERAL You have entered an invalid taxpayer name on your return. The taxpayer name must be letters only, with no more than one consecutive space within the name and no special characters other than &, - and <. To correct, click on Taxpayer Information under the Personal Information category and correct the Taxpayer Name. Click Save at the bottom of the form to save your changes. Click on Results to recalculate your return. When all errors are corrected, click on File Your Return to re-transmit your return to the IRS.
21 FEDERAL You have entered data in the “In Care Of” field that is invalid with the IRS. To correct, click on Taxpayer Information under the Personal Information category and correct the “In Care Of” field to be alphanumeric with no more than one consecutive space and with no special characters except ampersand (&), hyphen (-), slash (\) and percent (%). Click Save at the bottom of the form to save your changes. Click on Results to recalculate your return. When all errors are corrected, click on File Your Return to re-transmit your return to the IRS.
22 FEDERAL State Abbreviation in taxpayer address on Screen 1 must be alpha and
consistent with the standard state abbreviations issued by the Postal
Service. State Abbreviation IS A REQUIRED FIELD.
Exception: This check is not performed when the Address Indicator is
equal to "3", indicating a foreign address.
23 FEDERAL You entered an invalid resident city on your return. The city must be spelled out, be at least three letters long and have no more than one consecutive space within the name. Click on Taxpayer Information under the Personal Information category and correct the entry in the City field. Click Save at the bottom of the form to save your changes. Click on Results to recalculate your return. When all errors are corrected, click on File Your Return to re-transmit your return to the IRS.
24 FEDERAL You have entered a military residence city but did not enter a corresponding military state, or vice-versa. To correct, click on Taxpayer Information under the Personal Information category. If your residence city of “APO” or “FPO” is correct, then drop down the arrow on the state box and choose Armed Forces Americas (AA), Armed Forces Europe (AE) or Armed Forces Pacific (AP) at the bottom of the list. If your state is correct, AA, AE or AP, then enter “APO” or “FPO” in the city box. Be sure your ZIP code is as follows: • State Armed Forces Americas (AA) – ZIP 340 • State Armed Forces Europe (AE) – ZIP codes 090–098 • State Armed Forces Pacific (AP) – ZIP codes 962–966 Click Save at the bottom of the form to save your changes. Click on Results to recalculate your return. When all errors are corrected, click on File Your Return to re-transmit your return to the IRS.
25 FEDERAL Your Online tax return was rejected by the IRS because the PIN signature date or taxpayers date of birth is not present. 1) Click the Common Forms tab and select to Edit your Name, Address and Filing Status Information. Verify the Taxpayers Date of Birth and re-enter if necessary. 2) Click the View Results tab on the right hand side of the screen. 3) After your tax return results are displayed select the option to file your federal return electronically. 4) If your federal tax return has a refund, choose 1 of the 4 methods available to receive your refund. If your return has a balance due you can choose to have the funds automatically withdrawn from your account or you can mail the amount due to the IRS. If you are filing your state return you will also need to choose options regarding your state refund or balance due. 5) Important: When you come to the PIN Signature Information you have 2 signature options. You can choose to verify your Prior Year AGI amount or mail in Form 8453-OL which will print with your tax return. If you are not sure of your Prior Year AGI you should choose the No PIN option. 6) Complete the appropriate fields based on the Signature option you chose and click Continue. 7) When you get to the screen that allows you to view the PDF version of your tax return click E-File Return.
26 FEDERAL Authentication Record - For an On-Line return (ONLY when the Self-Select
PIN was not used): if Filing Status equals "2", then the following must
be present on the Authentication Record:

27 FEDERAL the ERO Setup was not completed properly. (For ETD returns, the EDO Setup)

1) The ERO's Name is REQUIRED.
2) The ERO's EFIN is REQUIRED.
3) The EFIN of the Originator must match the EFIN in the DCN.
(For ETD Documents, the EFIN must equal the EFIN
contained in the DCN of the ETD Document.)
28 FEDERAL the EFIN was entered incorrectly in ERO information. EFIN of
Originator must contain a valid two-digit EFIN prefix code.
29 FEDERAL the EFIN was NOT AUTHORIZED at the SERVICE CENTER the RETURN was
sent to. EFIN of Originator must be for a valid
electronic filer COMMON CAUSES for the return going to a different
service center are: 1) Form 2555 must go to Philadelphia and 2) the
piggyback state has caused return to go to another service center.
You may call the service center the return went to and request that
your EFIN be turned on at that center.
You can also request ALL service centers when filing Form 8633 with
the IRS. To print a blank Form 8633 in Drake Software, go to F5
Utilities, F2 Blank Forms, F2 Print Blank Forms, 1040 Series Forms,
8633.
If you get this error on a MESSAGES page, then check
your EFIN in firm Setup (it may be entered incorrectly).
